The Honest Truth about the SPF75
We’ve had two great weeks together, but it might be hard to share with someone that you just don’t know and have never met. So I’m taking a few moments to bring you up to speed on who we are, and what the SPF program was created for.
I have only one daughter (who I refer to as pumpkin since she was a baby), who is incredibly smart and who has now exceeded me in height. We have always had a fascination with pumpkins, grew them and took them to the local Farmer’s Market for a while and the pumpkin thing just stuck.
She is a wonderful blessing from the Lord and I am grateful to be her mom. I have home-schooled her since she was three and can’t imagine what our lives would be like if we hadn’t. We’ve had our ups and down, everything including red dye, PMS, different learning styles, coordinating the local homeschool group, starting our own jewelry making business, gall bladder surgery and living with family. To say the least, we’ve been busy and had our hands quite full. We have had to search hard sometimes for fun and to hold on to Jesus very strong. In all of that, God has never dropped us once. Hallelujah!
Six years ago, my husband separated from us and in the last year filed for divorce. New issues arose and we stood even closer to God and prayed for our family every day. Every experience we have had, has drawn us closer to each other and closer to the Lord. He gets all the credit for every good thing that has come from our lives. We have been tired, worn down, belittled and flat out hurt. Divorce is such a violent thing that rips at the very core of the family. I pray that NONE of you ever has to go through it.
About a month ago, I felt led to start a website. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for over six years, but God had held me back. I finally got the go-ahead and proceeded with caution. Remember, God had said no for six years, so how was I to know that I was hearing Him clearly now? Just as I was thinking that, He said to start a summer program for anyone that would join, gave me details and told me to hurry on it. Well, that was in mid-May and He said it was to start June 1st.
To bring you up to speed, this is not the FIRST time that God has done this with me. It’s a common theme, so it really didn’t bother me much. After everything we’d been through, I was actually chomping at the bit to get going. One of the special gifts He put way down deep in me, is some sort of intense organizational ability, but only under a condensed time-frame sort of mechanism. So off we went. The website was complete only a few days before launch, as I was learning as quickly as I could how all the other programs were to be integrated and how they worked. By the way, I’m still learning and appreciate each of you, as you have been so patient with me. I emailed as many of the homeschool groups across the nation as I could find. Which, as a side note, was super fun. We’ve only known how New Mexico does things, so to be able to chat with all of you across the states and see how homeschool is for each of you is HUGE to us.
I had hoped to be able to provide you with supply lists well in advance, but I am sure now that those will not happen. As a matter of fact, I often do not get the next activity until the day before. I think it’s God’s manna for the project. I only get the next day, the day before sort of thing.
Why is the program so important to us? it has been a wonderful time to reflect on all the fun that we’ve had over the last 11 years in New Mexico. We’ve been through so much in the last six of those years that has NOT been fun. We’ve had small, special moments here and there, but nothing like we are getting from this. The program is not rocket science. It’s nothing super spectacular, but it’s real. It’s us sharing with you things that make us smile and hoping they help you smile, and that no matter what you are going through, that you NEVER forget to see the beauty in the world. It’s not about waiting to be happy, but choosing happiness in the midst of trial and even tribulation.
If you are still here, and still reading, I want to thank you for being a part of SPF 75. I pray that this summer is the BEST ever and that you share it with us on Facebook so that we can smile with you. The activities are not hard and they target a lot of different age groups. The idea is to be able to be mobile, and remember that summer is about travel, family and getting out of the house. So even if you’re visiting family or friends, you can still participate and share with all the members.
There is nothing particularly great about us, but we have learned over the years how to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary.
