Hula Hoop Fun
Now when I was a kid, I tried for all I was worth to hula hoop. I watched, sitting on the side lines, while my best friends spun with glee. I always felt like they were in some sort of secret club that knew the trick and I was left out. It was not until I had my sweet pumpkin that I once again entertained the idea of trying. I mean if you are a mom you are going to do two things: look like you know what you are doing in front of your kids and try things that you would normally NEVER try because you want THEM to try.
After some research, I realized I needed a weighted hula, which did help, but not enough for me to go to the Olympics. I will remain, at best, a novice.
A few years ago, I saw RachelLust on YouTube and I was shocked. I didn’t even know you could DO those kinds of things with a hoop. The two things I loved the most about this video were the escalator and how she breakdances (moves her arms in an out on the spins). So cool.
I am posting the first video that I ever saw her in. She is way famous now and does lots of videos, competitions and trainings. I think the most remarkable thing about her, is that she took a passion and kept pursuing it.
Proverbs 18:16 says, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” So continue to BE who God made you to be, pursue your dream, and let your gift bring you before great men.
So today, we are going to do two things.
- We are going to learn to make hula hoops.
- We are going to learn how to do some of the cool tricks. (We are going use some of Rachel’s cool training videos)
This is going to be so much fun. Little kids actually pick this up so fast.
Making the Hoop
By far this part will be the most fun. We had so much trouble with the hoops from Walmart that I finally looked up how to make some online. This is how we learned to make ours. There are other videos, but the concept is the same.
Learning the Hoop Tricks
My favorite trick is the escalator. Thanks again to Rachel for being so awesome at this.

The House Takes a Vacation – You can get this book today on the kindle app for $1
This was a cute book with a lot of play on words. I’ve always wondered what it would be like if a house came to life. Can you imagine the stories it would tell? or what it thinks about when we’re gone?
Lunchtime for a Purple Snake
Jessica’s grandpa is an artist and she goes there to visit him one day. While she is there, they decide to paint. What I really enjoyed was that even when she makes a mistake, her grandpa reminds her that mistakes, can turn into something wonderful, like a purple snake.
Hilda Must Be Dancing
This hippo is crazy, but she loves dancing. But she tears everything up when she does and so she must find a way to coexist with all of the jungle. This book is filled with onomatopoeias. Those are words that sound just like they are said. Like BOOM. I love how carefree Hilda is and I think you will too.
