Rain and Wind Process Art
One of the things that I used to love when A. Pumpkin was little, was our art time. She is so incredibly artistic that it was just fun to watch her interpret her world through color. We used to do this thing that I called multi-media. When she was having a rough day, I would stop our schooling and get out the markers, crayons, colored pencils, finger paints and water colors. I would put them in a semi circle around her and put down lots of newspapers and give her a large piece of white paper.
Almost instantly she would change. She had so many ideas in her head that every now and then I just had to let her pour them out on paper. She would draw elaborate dresses with sequins and ruffles and knew all their colors. Once she was done letting her creativity flow for a while, she could then reengage in school and was much more pleasant to deal with.
Today’s activity reminds me of those old days. We are going to do something together that even we have never done. It’s called Rain & Wind Process Art. One thing that takes this ordinary painting to extraordinary fun, is using our own breath to create the artwork. Using a medicine dropper and a straw to BLOW the paint around can create some unusual designs.
I will admit, we have NOT tried this yet and will be doing it THIS morning right along with you and posting our paintings on our SPF Facebook page. Click HERE to head on over to see the project.
Road trip Approved Reading List
From the time A. was two, we kept a stack of books in the back seat for her to read through. She couldn’t read, but she would flip pages and pretend, looking at all the beautiful pictures. We traveled a lot back in those days, and those books kept our sanity levels in check. Since then, the invention of tablets have changed the way a lot of parents view books. So today, I’m giving you a list of some FUN FREEBIE or $1 books from Amazon that you can load on your kindle and gain your sanity on those long vacation trips. Please note: There are affiliate links on all our books recommendations.
The Kindle
First, if you don’t have a Kindle Fire, they just dropped the price to $39.99. I have two friends that just got this one and love it. My personal review of it is that for the price it is great. The processor is a little bit slower than our iPad, but it has all the functionality. If you are looking for an inexpensive but quality tablet, this is it. It was originally $49.99 and is now marked down to $39.99. GREAT BUY!
The Books
I want you to know that I can be very old school sometimes. I had decided that I was NEVER going to be someone that reads books on a tablet. The whole concept just wasn’t something I thought I could embrace. I liked to touch and feel and high light them. Then one day, wanting to get A. to read more, I downloaded the overdrive app from the library and saw a book I wanted to read. The rest is history. It is so much easier than I imagined. The font is always like I like it, I can set the page color not to hurt my eyes. We highly enjoy it now.
