National Rocky Road Day
Today is National Rocky Road Day! Rocky road ice cream is a delicious dessert with an interesting culinary history. In 1929 after the stock market crash, a man named William Dreyer (the founder of Dreyer Ice Cream) calmed his Black Thursday nerves by creating the original rocky road. He mixed chunky almonds, mini marshmallows, and delicious milk chocolate ice cream to create a new ice cream flavor that would make people smile despite the tough economic times. It instantly became an American favorite and soon became popular all over the world.
Did you know that in Australia, people add jam to their rocky road ice cream? And in the United Kingdom, they add cherries and raisins!
Since summer is full of ice cream favorites, today we are going to make Rocky Road Peanut Clusters. These are super easy thanks to a recipe from MOMONTIMEOUT . They have 5 ingredients and are SUPER easy. I want to see pictures!
Food for Thought
When Mr. Dreyer made this ice cream, he was hoping to cheer people up in a time that was so depressing that people wanted to take their own lives. What are two things that you can do to make either your mom, dad or a friend smile in the midst of problems. Now I asked my daughter this and her answer was when I rewrite the words to famous songs and sing them like I’m in a rock band.
Marshmallow Castle and Catapult
The Rocky Road is absolutely wonderful, but you know and I know that you will have at least half of a bag of marshmallows left over. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I think you are going to come up with the same solution that I did.
A Marshmallow Catapult!
I found one that uses most of the items that you should have in your house, and will give your kids loads of fun building structures and tearing them down.
