We started homeschooling A. Pumpkin when she was three. By first grade, I noticed we would have random meltdowns that were unexplainable and I didn’t know what or how to handle them. I was watching the emotional life cycle of a menopausal woman in the body of a 5 year old.
I resulted to what I have always referred to as multi-media (or medium). I laid out some very large drawing paper with an arrangement of markers, crayons, colored pencils, tempera paint, and finger paint….and then I turned her loose. That simple act seemed to save the day.
I think coloring is huge. There is something so therapeutic about it. I have seen so many of the adult coloring books and unashamedly wanted to pick one up for myself, but have just never done it. Then i saw that one of our favorite homeschool reference sites has a collection I knew what we were going to do today!
This is still shark week and sharks are predators of dolphins; however, Orca’s (technically in the dolphin family) are the predator of sharks. Orca’s are one smart cookie and have figured out a special technique called bumping that turns the Great White into a “pussycat”

Carisa over at www.1plus1plus1equals1.com was and continues to inspire me as a homeschool mom. She has some amazing color sheets that you can just relax with. Remember, coloring IS fun. I think as we grow older we just simply forget that. So if you are exploding lemons, let the kids have the kitchen and YOU take sometime and just color.
Here’s what our’s looked like.

Calendar Mysteries #6 June Jam
Father’s Day is coming and Bradley, Brian, Nate, and Lucy have an idea, but something keeps eating all the strawberries. How are they supposed to make Grandma Pinto’s strawberry jam with no strawberries? Is the strawberry snatching creature there beloved pony Polly? Is it their Trustworthy dog Pal? Find out who is eating all the strawberries in this book. Now for my thoughts. First off I thought that they would get very hot. I mean working outside pretty much all day in the heat of the sun. I realize it is Connecticut but if they lived in the south, they’d be golden brown. As I write this, it’s around 100 degrees here. And I don’t like the heat. Second I thought that Lucy is a very smart kid, she always seems to have a plan.
